Xbox: Microsoft Enhances Gaming with Mode in Windows 11

Posted on 02.05.2026

Microsoft is rolling out Xbox Mode in Windows 11, transforming how gamers interact with their PCs. This update aims to create a seamless, console-like experience for users who prefer gaming on their computers.

Xbox Mode offers a controller-optimized, full-screen interface that simplifies navigation and enhances gameplay. Jason Ronald, a key figure in the development, mentioned that “Xbox mode makes it easier to jump into your games.” The goal? To make PC gaming feel just as accessible as it does on an Xbox console.

As part of this launch, Microsoft has also added five new day-one games to its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass offerings. This includes:

  • Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era — the latest installment in a beloved series.
  • Aphelion — a new sci-fi action-adventure game from Don’t Nod.
  • Inkonbini: One Stores. Many Stories — currently holding an impressive 85 on Metacritic.
  • TerraTech Legion — a roguelite action game available on Game Pass.
  • Sledding Game — boasting a remarkable 97% approval rating on Steam.

This move reflects Microsoft’s commitment to bridging the gap between console and PC gaming. Ian LeGrow emphasized that this update “adds another way to enjoy games on your PC, with a controller-optimized, full-screen experience that is built for play.”

Interestingly, Xbox Mode isn’t entirely new; it’s an evolution of the Full Screen Experience first introduced with Xbox Ally gaming handhelds back in 2025. This evolution shows how Microsoft continuously seeks to enhance user experience through thoughtful updates.

The pricing for the latest Xbox consoles remains competitive, with the Xbox Series X priced at $499 and the Series S starting at $299. In contrast, Sony’s PS5 Slim Digital version retails at $499, highlighting the ongoing rivalry between these gaming giants.

As players dive into this new mode and explore fresh titles, one thing is clear: Microsoft is not just keeping pace but actively shaping the future of gaming on PCs.
