Wren Kitchens Chapter 7: Customers Left in the Lurch

Posted on 28.04.2026

Just days before the end of April, a wave of panic swept through the homes of Wren Kitchens’ customers. An email arrived—cold and abrupt—announcing that all 15 retail stores across the U.S. would close immediately. “We regret to inform you that our showrooms and studios are now closed,” it read. For many, this wasn’t just a minor inconvenience; it was a financial crisis.

On April 27, 2026, Wren Kitchens filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation. The news hit hard, especially for those who had invested thousands into unfinished renovations. Perry Ragusa, one of the affected customers, expressed his frustration: “No warning from them. Just out of nowhere closed up and left this kitchen like this.” His situation mirrored that of countless others.

Wren’s abrupt exit from the market left customers like Melissa Dethlefsen in limbo—$23,000 held by the company with no clear path to recovery. The uncertainty loomed large as many wondered how they’d reclaim their funds after this bankruptcy filing.

Adding to the chaos, a class action lawsuit emerged, claiming violations of the WARN Act. This act mandates advance notice for mass layoffs or closures—something Wren failed to provide. With Home Depot, Wren’s partner since 2024, stating they had no prior notice of Wren’s intent to close, questions about consumer protection arose.

Financially, Wren Kitchens reported assets and liabilities between $100 million and $500 million. Yet, with U.S. operations contributing only around 4% to their turnover, some speculate whether there will be enough left for creditors—and customers—to recover anything.

The first creditors meeting is scheduled for May 20, 2026. Until then, customers remain anxious about their losses—some totaling upwards of $20,000 like Gloria Dorau’s case. Many have written checks that now sit uncashed.

As they navigate this turbulent time, uncertainty reigns supreme. Officials have not clarified how assets will be distributed or what recourse exists for those left stranded by Wren’s sudden closure.

In a world where home renovations symbolize comfort and stability, Wren Kitchens’ downfall disrupts not just finances but lives—leaving many wondering how they’ll piece together their homes again.
