Beck stated that the Tigers will look for young pitching in nearly any deal. While the team possesses young arms such as Troy Melton, Jackson Jobe, Reese Olson, and Ty Madden, their farm system is reportedly thin on projectable starting pitchers.
If the Tigers decide to trade Skubal, who has been described as one of the best starting pitchers in Major League Baseball, they would seek a strong young pitcher in return. The organization, under Scott Harris, would likely ask for more than just one young pitcher, but a young starting pitcher is expected to be a minimum requirement in exchange for Skubal.
The young pitcher sought could be someone who has already debuted in MLB, is close to a debut this season or next year, or is a top-tier prospect moving up the rankings. The Tigers’ objective is to acquire a new starter if Skubal is traded. This is considered a reasonable asking price for the pitcher, who is a two-time Cy Young Award winner and recently reached 1,000 strikeouts in his Tigers career.
Dodgers’ Approach to the Trade Deadline
