Sarah danh recovery update

Posted on 02.05.2026

Sarah Danh is showing remarkable signs of recovery after being in a coma due to a sudden health crisis during her honeymoon in Japan. She is breathing without life support and has taken her first steps since falling ill on April 9.

Since that fateful day, when she experienced acute liver failure, Sarah has faced numerous challenges. After her medical evacuation from Tokyo to San Antonio on April 21, she has been battling serious complications, including brain damage caused by a stroke. An MRI revealed some of the damage could be reversible, providing a glimmer of hope for her family.

Currently, Sarah remains in the intensive care unit, undergoing continuous renal replacement therapy along with blood transfusions and plasma exchanges. Despite not being able to talk or eat on her own, she expresses emotions—smiling, crying, and even giggling at times. Her uncle shared that she has regained some physical strength; she can wiggle her toes and move her arms.

Key updates:

  • Sarah was medically evacuated from Tokyo to San Antonio on April 21.
  • She has been battling liver failure and other complications since April 9.
  • A GoFundMe page raised over $187,000 for her treatment before it was taken down.
  • Her recovery will require ongoing physical and cognitive therapy.

Khang Le, Sarah’s partner, expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received: “I truly believe the prayers and support you have all provided have given Sarah the strength and courage to keep fighting for her life.” He also noted that this morning doctors tested her strength—she was able to take a few small steps with assistance.

The exact cause of Sarah’s health decline remains unknown, with further testing needed to clarify what led to this crisis. Nonetheless, each small step forward brings renewed hope for Sarah Danh and those who love her.
