Nvidia’s market share for AI accelerators in China has dropped to zero, a staggering fall from its previous 66% hold just two years ago. This dramatic decline stems from strict US export controls that have effectively barred Nvidia from selling its products to Chinese firms.
Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, stated, “In China, we have now dropped to zero.” He acknowledged that conceding an entire market as vast as China’s “probably does not make a lot of strategic sense.” Once a dominant player in the AI sector, Nvidia now faces fierce competition from domestic companies like Huawei, Cambricon, Moore Threads, and MetaX.
The implications of this shift are significant. With Nvidia’s exit, Chinese technology firms are rapidly filling the void. According to industry analysts, domestic vendors are expected to cover up to 80% of the demand for AI accelerators previously met by Nvidia.
