Miami Super Bowl hosting requirements

Posted on 03.05.2026

Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium has dropped out of the Super Bowl hosting rotation due to changes in the surrounding area and insufficient hospitality space. The NFL believes the stadium lacks enough hospitality area to meet its requirements.

Since 1968, Miami has hosted 11 Super Bowls, tying it with New Orleans for the most in history. The last time Miami welcomed the big game was in 2020. But now, as Stephen Ross, owner of the Miami Dolphins, stated, “Miami is not really in line for one.” This statement reflects a shift that many fans and stakeholders are grappling with.

The area around Hard Rock Stadium has changed significantly over recent years. It has adapted to accommodate events like the Miami Open and Formula 1 races. Yet, these developments seem to have come at a cost—one that might have affected its eligibility for future Super Bowls. The NFL’s stringent requirements mean that stadiums must not only provide a great viewing experience but also sufficient hospitality options for fans and guests.

Stephen Ross emphasized this point, noting, “They don’t believe we meet all the requirements and the demands.” He’s aware of the implications this has for Miami’s status as a premier sports destination. In response, he’s exploring improvements to enhance fan experience at Hard Rock Stadium.

Key facts:

  • Miami has hosted 11 Super Bowls, tied for the record with New Orleans.
  • The last Super Bowl in Miami was held in 2020.
  • The next three Super Bowls are scheduled for SoFi Stadium in 2027, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2028, and Allegiant Stadium in 2029.

While fans may feel disheartened by this news, there’s still hope on the horizon. Improvements to Hard Rock Stadium could pave the way for future opportunities. But for now, Miami will have to watch as other cities take center stage.
