Dana White, the head of UFC, recently expressed strong criticism regarding the production quality of the FIFA World Cup final. His remarks were shared through an Instagram story, where he specifically targeted the tournament’s production team. White’s comments followed what he perceived as significant errors during the broadcast of the final match between Spain and Argentina.
White’s critique stemmed from a prior incident where he had publicly criticized his own UFC production team. Last week, a graphic during a UFC broadcast incorrectly identified champion boxer Shakur Stevenson as Oklahoma Thunder guard Jalen Williams. This error led White to believe his own team had reached a new low in production mistakes.
However, the issues he observed during the World Cup final seemingly altered his perspective. He sarcastically questioned the soccer tournament’s producers, implying that they had surpassed his own team in terms of production blunders. White’s comments suggested a sense of disbelief that another production team could make such notable errors.
World Cup Production Errors Highlighted
During his Instagram story, White directly addressed the World Cup producers, stating, “What do you guys do? You triple down today and just go, ‘F**k you Dana White, you’re not beating us! We’re the worst production team in the history of sports to ever show celebrities.'” He conceded that the World Cup production team had “won” in being the worst, declaring, “You guys win. You guys f**ked up that flyover too!”
White further elaborated on his assessment, adding, “I’m not going to nitpick. I’m just giving you credit where credit is due. You guys absolutely f**king suck. We are the second worst.” This statement indicated that he now considered the UFC production team to be only the second worst, with the World Cup team taking the top spot for production mishaps.
One of the specific incidents that drew attention during the World Cup final broadcast was a gaffe by Fox Sports announcer John Strong. During Spain‘s 1-0 victory over Argentina, Strong mistakenly identified actor Matt Damon as Brad Pitt. This misidentification gained considerable traction for the wrong reasons, contributing to the overall perception of production issues.
Another point of contention for White was the reported timing issue with the military flyover during the event. Reports indicated a lack of synchronization between Jennifer Hudson‘s performance of the national anthem and the appearance of the military aircraft. Cameras were reportedly focused on the sky for approximately 30 seconds, anticipating the jets.
When the jets eventually appeared, they were observed flying significantly off to the side of the stadium. An Instagram video shared by influencer Gabby Gonzalez captured this moment, showing that the flyover seemed to go largely unnoticed by many in the crowd due to its late arrival and off-course trajectory. This further fueled White’s criticism of the overall production.

White’s previous criticisms of his own UFC production team included instances of mislabeling celebrities. For example, former undefeated boxing champion Terence Crawford was once incorrectly identified as rapper Kendrick Lamar. The more recent error involving Shakur Stevenson and Jalen Williams had initially led White to believe his team was the worst.
However, the World Cup final broadcast presented a new set of errors that, in White’s view, surpassed those of the UFC. While many celebrities were shown throughout the Spain vs. Argentina match, the absence of graphics for these individuals was noted. Additionally, a BBC broadcast reportedly mislabeled Pharrell Williams as A$AP Rocky, initially even calling him “AKA Rocky.”
White recounted his prior confidence in his team being the worst, stating on Instagram, “Even though everybody in my team was arguing with me saying that you are the worst, I said, ‘No, we are the worst – they didn’t f**k it up as bad as we did.'” He then described the World Cup production team’s performance as a “triple down” on errors, leading him to “bow down” to them as the new leader in poor production.
The World Cup final saw Spain defeat Argentina by a score of 1-0. This outcome reportedly impacted a significant wager made by UFC 329 headliner Conor McGregor, who lost a $100,000 bet on the match. White concluded his remarks by reiterating his belief that the World Cup production team “absolutely f**king suck,” and that the UFC team is now “the second worst.”
