Opening Week Highlights
The NBA has released its complete schedule for the 2026-27 regular season, detailing broadcast and streaming schedules across various platforms. The season is set to begin on Tuesday, October 20, with a tripleheader on NBC/Peacock. This opening night will feature the Boston Celtics visiting the Detroit Pistons, followed by the defending NBA champion New York Knicks hosting the Philadelphia 76ers. The third game of the night will see the San Antonio Spurs meet the Oklahoma City Thunder at Frost Bank Center.
The second and third days of the regular season, October 21 and October 22, will include ESPN/ESPN App doubleheaders. On October 21, Giannis Antetokounmpo is scheduled to play for the Miami Heat as they host the Minnesota Timberwolves. Later that evening, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors will visit Luka Dončić and the Los Angeles Lakers. On October 22, LeBron James is slated to make his Philadelphia home debut when the 76ers face Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The night will conclude with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the Thunder against Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets.
The regular season is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, April 11, 2027, with all 30 teams in action. An ESPN doubleheader will highlight the final day, with specific matchups to be announced later.
Emirates NBA Cup and Special Events
The schedule incorporates the Emirates NBA Cup 2026, with Group Play games taking place on “Cup Nights” every Friday from October 30 through November 27, as well as on Tuesday, November 24 and Wednesday, November 25. Following Group Play, the Knockout Rounds will be streamed on Prime Video, featuring single-elimination games. The Quarterfinals are set for Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5, the Semifinals on Tuesday, December 8 and/or Wednesday, December 9, and the Championship on Friday, December 11.
The NBA will also feature five games on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, marking the 19th consecutive year for this tradition. The Christmas Day lineup includes a 2026 NBA Finals rematch between the Knicks and Spurs at Madison Square Garden. Other games scheduled for Christmas Day are the Heat at Celtics, 76ers at Lakers, Thunder at Timberwolves, and Nuggets at Warriors.
Special events include the second annual NBA Pioneers Classic on February 3, where the Pistons will host the Knicks to honor the league’s first Black players. Additionally, AWS NBA Rivals Week will feature a quadrupleheader on January 30, with matchups such as the 76ers at Heat, Nuggets at Thunder, Spurs at Warriors, and Lakers at Knicks.
Anticipated Returns and International Games
The 2026-27 season schedule includes several anticipated returns of prominent players to their former cities. Jaylen Brown is slated to play in Boston on January 21, one of four games between the 76ers and Celtics this season. Giannis Antetokounmpo is scheduled to return to Milwaukee with the Miami Heat on January 28. Damian Lillard, who re-signed with Portland last season, is expected to play his first home game of his second stint with the Trail Blazers on October 21.
LeBron James will revisit Los Angeles on Christmas Day, playing against the Lakers. Trae Young is set to play in Atlanta on November 6. Ja Morant is scheduled to play in Memphis on February 6. Tyrese Haliburton is expected to return to Madison Square Garden against the reigning-champion Knicks on November 22.
The NBA will also hold two regular-season games in Europe. Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs will play the New Orleans Pelicans in Paris on January 14, and again in Manchester, England, on January 17. The game in Manchester will mark the first time a regular-season game has been held in that city.
Key Matchups and Rivalries
The schedule features several matchups between teams that have developed rivalries or had significant playoff encounters. The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs, who met in the 2026 Western Conference Finals, will play three times during the regular season, on October 20, February 11, and March 14.
The Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves, who have faced each other in the first round of the playoffs multiple times recently, are scheduled to play four times in the regular season: on December 28, December 31, January 27, and March 7.
The Warriors will face James and the 76ers twice, on March 24 and March 31. Additionally, the first two picks in the most recent draft, Washington’s AJ Dybantsa and Utah’s Darryn Peterson, are scheduled to play against each other for the first time on February 27.
