Christopher Knight recently shared insights about his near-romantic relationship with Eve Plumb, his co-star from The Brady Bunch. The two actors, who played siblings on the iconic television sitcom from 1969 to 1974, had a moment that could have changed everything. Yet, despite mutual feelings, Knight wasn’t ready for the connection.
After The Brady Bunch wrapped up, they went on a date. It was sweet—but it didn’t evolve into what it could have been. “Eve was more mature than me very early [and] always had… her claim on me,” Knight reflected. He realized too late that he wasn’t prepared to embrace that claim.
In her memoir Happiness Included: Jan Brady and Beyond, Plumb described their date as lovely but acknowledged they were too good of friends to transition into something romantic. “Any attempts at making out that evening ended with laughter and resignation that we’d always be sister and brother, even in real life,” she noted.
This friendship endured long after the cameras stopped rolling. They still keep in touch—monthly Zoom calls with their spouses—and reminisce about those days on set. Their bond is a testament to how deep friendships can sometimes blur the lines of romance.
Reflecting on their near-romance, Knight compared it to “getting a kiss on two different trains right as they separate.” It’s poetic—and perhaps a bit bittersweet—that such feelings surfaced just as their time together was ending.
Both actors moved on; Plumb married Ken Pace in 1995, while Knight found love with Cara Kokenes in 2016. Yet, every so often, they look back at what might have been—a missed opportunity wrapped in warmth and laughter.
Their story reminds us of the complexities of relationships shaped by friendship and timing. In a world where connections often shift unexpectedly, Knight and Plumb’s tale stands out—an enduring friendship rooted in shared history and moments that could have led somewhere deeper.
