Chase Claypool is trying out for the Green Bay Packers during their rookie minicamp, looking to revive his NFL career after two seasons marred by injuries and underperformance.
Once a second-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Claypool made an impressive debut in 2020 with 62 catches for 879 yards and nine touchdowns. However, his trajectory took a downturn after being traded to the Chicago Bears in October 2023. He finished that season with just eight catches for 77 yards and one touchdown in 12 games.
The last time he stepped onto the field was on January 7, 2024, playing for the Miami Dolphins. In that game, he managed only one catch for three yards. His struggles continued when he was released by the Buffalo Bills after suffering a toe injury during training camp, leading to an entire season away from the game in 2025.
Claypool announced his intention to attempt an NFL comeback on July 3, 2025. “I deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align, and I will work my way into the position to show off what’s been suppressed these last two years,” he expressed, underscoring his determination.
At the rookie minicamp, Claypool is among eight players vying for a spot on the Packers’ roster. Coach Matt LaFleur commented on his performance so far: “He’s had some great film out there. He’s been productive and he looks like he’s in great shape. And he’s big. We’ll see how it goes.” This positive feedback hints at potential for a fresh start.
