A large brush fire in Buckeye, Arizona, has been successfully contained after rapidly growing to 275 acres, with no reported injuries or structural damage.
The blaze ignited near Hazen Road and Rooks Road around 3 p.m. and quickly escalated. By 7 p.m., it had already reached over 270 acres. Firefighters faced challenges due to the fire burning in a river bottom, which made access difficult.
Throughout the incident, the Buckeye Fire Department worked diligently to manage the situation. They began allowing the fire to burn through available fuels in a controlled manner, which helped mitigate further spread.
As a precautionary measure, State Route 85 was shut down due to visibility concerns from smoke. Meanwhile, Arizona Public Service de-energized power lines in the area to ensure safety for both residents and emergency personnel.
Residents were advised to shelter in place during the firefighting efforts. Fortunately, there were no evacuations ordered, reflecting how effectively crews managed the situation amidst rising flames.
The cause of this fire is still under investigation. Officials have not confirmed whether it was sparked by human activity or natural causes. Furthermore, the extent of any damage to electrical infrastructure remains unknown.
Firefighters are optimistic as natural barriers are helping to slow down the fire’s spread. They continue monitoring the situation closely as they work on full containment.
